I love docked rotties, and I respect the fact that there are many people that prefer tailed rotts, either way a Rottweiler is a Rottweiler with or without a tail. It is just a matter of preference. I know that there are countries where docking is not allowed and that is unfortunate, and for those people I ask, please don’t make us look like the bad guy because that is our preference? However, I do agree that if a puppy’s tail is cut after 5 days old that is considered an amputation and I am 100% against it, this act is called cruelty. I believe that in the ring, the rottie should be judge on what makes the breed not the tail. This is only my opinion!

Thank you for creating this page, Loren. I am a docked to tailed Rottweiler convert. My first two Rottweilers have been docked and my current two Rottweilers are tailed. I love the tails and would be very hard pressed to return to owning a docked Rottweiler. I do believe in the right to choose a natural tailed or docked dog. As the presence of tailed dogs increases, I hope people will realize there's much ado about nothing. I look forward to the day when tailed and docked are seen equally in the breed ring.

I used to be quite "anti-tail" when this issue presented itself while I was specialing a dog in 2000 and only going to American shows. When I got my Karelians and started going to Europe for the shows I naturally gravitated to the Rottie ring as there were usually at least 100 and sometimes closer to 300 Rottweilers being exhibited and some had tails and others didn't. The first time I went to Helsinki Voittaja there were 117 Rotts entered. One young dog with a tail walked into the ring and I said to Tom "That dog is absolutely exquisite!" He ended up being Best of Breed that day and I was entranced by him. It was a real awakening to realize that it did not matter one bit if the dog had a tail or not.....a good dog is a good dog is a good dog. I think that we need to stop throwing the baby out with the bath water and concentrate on the dogs that have lovely structure, temperament, health etc. We also need to understand that the entire tail issue is based on what we are used to looking at. Let's face it, if Great Danes were docked we would think an undocked Dane to be pretty strange looking. Now just TRY to imagine a docked Dane!!!
I do prefer a docked Rottie. It is what I am so very used to seeing that the tail is a bit jarring at first. I do however believe that we need to stop with the parochial nonsense and take a more global approach to the issue. The Europeans have moved on and do not understand the American "stuck in the mud" attitude over the docking issue. Maybe it's time we moved on also.

Great webpage Loren. Good insight. I love our breed. A Rott is a Rott, tail or not.
One World. One Love. One Breed.
Nuff said.

Great page Loren, I am proud to be your friend, why is so much hatred out there, I can not understand, the funny thing about it is that that group called them self, the true lovers of the breed, and what they are really doing is destroying the breed. Making everyday funny Champions. That what is all about, MONEY, finishing dogs without true competition, adding points to be rank at the top dogs in the Nation, they are scare, so that is why the holding on to the tail issue to keep making fraudulent champions.
Congratulation Loren.
Regards
Carlos

Sadley this situation is a catch 22 - fevers are high and pride in the standard is so 'gut deep', people are defending it with all their heart. However, the right to show and own a tailed dog has NOTHING to do with the right to dock/crop our breed. These are two different subjects, and the sooner people understand that the better.
...and if anyone has docked a tail on an adult dog or past the date given in most, if not all, ethics and guidlines...they should be reported. That is an abuse.
As for tails, I believe we should welcome them - we have a far bigger storm lurking in the distance and we need the support and numbers to help fight and secure the right to own our breed. We need to band together.
Matter of fact most people I talked to that own tailed dogs, don't care whether or not the dogs are docked or not, in fact they seem to be more accepting of those people who chose to continue to defend and follow the Breed Standard (as it is today) in having the choice to dock/crop. They just want to be able to show their dogs on "equal ground".
I for one prefer a docked rottweiler, and I will defend the right to dock/crop, but that has nothing to do with accepting and showing tails in the AKC rings. So, I repeat, we need member numbers, dollars, and entries to support our breed.
Nicely done Loren - but I would stress this isn't about the right to dock, just the right to show - and come together over a breed we all love!

I have never owned a tailed Rottweiler and once thought I never would but
when people make such a scene about how horrible people are to show a Rott with a tail, it makes me want to own one and show him/her big time.

Great job Loren.....as you know I own both tailed and docked...I too dock my puppies ....1) because I don't want to have to fight the crap in the AKC ring.....I don't see what all the hub-bub is about with the tail....once you are around them for a couple of days....who sees the tail ....unless there is a fault with it.
I had some pics made at the USRC Natl's one year and when Mario sent them to me there was one w/Deacon's tail to the side like he was docked....he didn't look right without it

Very good page, Loren. I agree 100%.
I also like the docked Rottweiler. But I will say, that after having Aponi for the last 3 1/2 months, I LOVE her tail !! And I will have to think long and hard about docking my next litter. The tails are absolutely awesome !!!

Good Job Loren --- it's true that the sad state of affairs has really cost this breed in terms of genetic diversity. Hopefully we can add to the list of pointed or finished tailed dogs.

Great page, Loren! I just want to add that I can't imagine anyone actually amputating the tail on a older puppy or adult! This is unbelievably cruel! Anyone who would do this should be prosecuted for animal cruelty, in my opinion.

I love docked dogs . We dock ours . Allowing a tail in the ring is no threat to anyone . It only benefits the sport and breed . Tehnay sayers are acting out of fear . It is the same mentality as "oh no , If women or X group get to vote , the world will come crashing down " . We all love the dogs . Nothing else matters except their health and happiness ...and they dang sure don't care if the dog in the ring next to them has a tail or not!

Good grief, Loren. You're such a trouble maker. It's people like you who are ruining this country and changing it from what the Founding Fathers intended. Next thing you know, we'll have to free the slaves, let women vote, and provide socialized medicine for old folks.
